Windows 10 technical preview
Windows 10 features and news.
Windows 10 is now out in a free technical preview, and in this articles we will be looking at some of the new features it has.
If you want to test it out yourself here a link where you can get it. Windows 10 technical preview
We will start with the installation of the new windows, but it is pretty much the same as the previous windows, nothing special has changed.
It is installed on a virtual box from Oracle.
Windows Update
After the installation i ran Windows Update to get the newest changes to the preview. and discovered a missing feature of the earlier.
When updates are installed you get a option to restart now or set a specific time to when it is convenient for to restart the computer, this is in my opinion about time.
It appears that you now only have one place to control update settings instead of two.
Search and Start Menu
The search menu and start menu has been separated.
The start menu is completely redone, it has some from windows 7 and some from Windows 8, and it is possible to maximize it to full-screen if you are using a tablet or touch device.
and when you open the apps from windows store it isn’t maximized and you can choose the size yourself, that i think will make the apps more attractive to desktop users as they don’t completly take over your screen.
The Search is default besides the start menu, and can be used to search for installed programs as well as for the web.
Multiple desktops
One of the new features Windows 10 offers is multiple desktop, like OSX and Linux have had for some time now.
At the bottum you can add desktop, and the windows in the top what is open on the desktop you are currently on, you have to right click the window and select move if you want it on another desktop, which in my opinion is a bit clumsy, drag and drop is not working, but would be easier. maybe there is another way to move them i haven’t discovered. But its a good start and a great tool if you’re not using multiple monitor and like to have a lot of stuff open.
Snap windows
If you snap a window to side it will fill half the screen with that windows, nothing new and fancy in that, but it shows the other windows you have open so you can snap them to the other side.
Windows Store Beta, and Office for touch.
The store also got a needed upgrade, as you can see it has become more intuitive and its is easier to find what you are looking for.
Microsoft office also got some news, they offer a preview of Word and Excel in the new beta store that is improved for touch.
I don’t have the hardware to test the touch function of office, but at first glance it seems easier to use with bigger buttons and less features.
Windows 10 overall.
The overall picture of windows seems to be a big improvement over Windows 8.1, it prettier to look at and you got the feel that Microsoft actually is listingen to what the users are wanting from Windows.
We will follow the development and continue to post news on Windows 10 as it develops, this was just some of the new features of windows 10.
